About Michal Golan

Michal Golan is an Israeli born jewelry designer, printer and ceramist and is the creative force behind the company that bears her name. She lives in New York with her husband and three children.

Michal holds a Master's Degree in studio art from New York University and a bachelor's degree in graphic art from the University of Maryland. She has exhibited her paintings and prints in several shows in Washington, D.C. and New York. Michal has also won the Ben-Yitzhak medal for Distinguished Children's' Book illustration.

Michal started designing jewelry and selling it at craft fairs in order to support herself during graduate school. Demand for her jewelry quickly grew. After graduation, Michal devoted increasing time to her jewelry and her husband, Michael, joined in, managing the business. Over the past twenty years, the company has expanded significantly, but the underlying premise of Michal's work has remained.

The brilliantly colored jewelry, as well as all her other work, is handcrafted at Golan's studio in Hell's Kitchen. Golan's intricately designed work represents the intergration of her love of antique art and her contemporary design sensibility. She cites the lavish decoration of Victorian jewelry and the colors and schema of Middle Eastern art as her primary influences.

In recent years, Michal has divided her time between her jewelry design and her ceramic mosaic work. The inspiration for her mosaics draws from her longtime interest in how individual objects come together to create unified, coherent scenes and bodies. Her work manipulates the way in which the small objects and features of a scene rely on one another to be defined and categorized. Michal hopes you enjoy both her ceramic work and her jewelry as much as she enjoys creating it.
